'Jacinta Ardern': The Chase's Bradley Walsh under fire for not allowing half-right Jacinda Ardern answer on show

The Chase host Bradley Walsh has come under fire for not allowing "Jacinta Ardern" as an answer to one of the show's final round questions.

Sally and Greg had been up against Chaser Paul Sinha for the chance to win £11,000 in the final chase when they were asked the question about Ardern.

"Which woman is the MP for Mt Albert in New Zealand?" Sinha was asked.

He started to say Julia Gillard, before stumbling and realising he was wrong.

Walsh then asked the contestants, who after some deliberation decided the answer was "Jacinta Ardern".

"Sorry, can't give it to you, it's Jacinda, not Jacinta," Walsh said.

The pair were eventually defeated but only with seconds to spare, leading to speculation that if they'd got the answer right, they would have won.

The episode aired back in the UK in March 2022, but only played on TVNZ in New Zealand on December 1.

"Bit harsh on The Chase today - Jacinta Ardern instead of Jacinda Ardern," one said.

"I think Bradley could have given that in fairness," another said.

But another said Walsh was right.

"Generally quizzing rules usually stipulate that just the last name is enough (Unless the question wants both), but if you give a first name and it's wrong, then you get the question wrong. Rip them. Should have just said Ardern," they said.
