Six60 jokes 2022 has 'been OK' after busy year of touring, releasing new music and being locked out of MIQ

Six60 band members say they are looking forward to taking the Christmas and New Year break to spend time with family and whanau.

The group has now wrapped up most of its Six60 Saturdays tour aside from a homecoming Dunedin tour date in March 2023.

However, the 'Don't Forget Your Roots' hitmakers said on AM's final show of the year they're most looking forward to some downtime, but hinted at a new album coming in the new year.

When asked by Ryan Bridge about how his year was, Eli Paewai joked "it's been OK" before saying he was "looking forward to getting on tour again and me and the boys are talking about making another album".

Singer Matiu Walters told Melissa Chan-Green the downtime was the most important thing ahead of them.

"It's the first time in a long time we've had the New Year's break to ourselves, 'cos it's usually filled with gigs and festivals so we're looking forward to doing nothing really," he said.

This year saw Six60 trapped in Los Angeles after the New Zealand borders were closed and they were unable to get an MIQ spot.

They used the time to write their latest album Castle St while outside of Aotearoa.
