One of the few remaining couples from the last season of reality TV show Married at First Sight Australia have called it quits.

Melinda Willis and Layton Mills have revealed they have split in a social media post.

"Hi all - we wanted to keep this private for the time being, but we have a lot of supporters that are invested in the relationship and owe it to you to be transparent," the post said.

"After a lot of thought and consideration, we have sadly decided to both take time apart.

"We still care very deeply for each other and this doesn't mean our lives can't come back together, but as of now, we think this decision is for the best. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for all your support throughout our journey, it has meant the world to us. We hope you can understand and ask for your kindness and respect during this time."

The couple were paired together during Season 10 of MAFS AU and had just celebrated their one year anniversary in September.

While they had had arguments during their time together on the series, they affirmed their commitment to each during the show's Final Vows ceremony.

However, Willis hinted the physical distance between the pair of them may have caused an issue during an Instagram Live session in May.

Willis lived in Brisbane, while Mills was located in Sydney.

"It can be hard sometimes, especially if we fight and we aren't there to hug the other after," she said at the time.
