An eagle-eyed Kiwi home cook spotted an unwelcome visitor in her recipe card and has since shared the discovery online.

Wellington woman Jenna Limmer posted a video on the Vic Deals Facebook page while making the frankly delicious-sounding 'Baked cheesy crumbed chicken with kumara chips'.

Less delicious was the unwelcome visitor spotted in the photo - a fly perched on the artfully arranged pieces of cucumber.

"Oh no, who wants a fly with their dinner?" she captioned the post.

Commenters were quick to see the funny side, tagging in their friends.

"Protein," one person joked.

"Better a fly than a maggot I say, win!" another wrote.

A Foodstuffs spokesperson told Newshub the recipe "flies in the face of our normal standards!"

"The offending recipe card has been removed from stores," they added.

Now the online page for 'Baked cheesy chicken' on its site diverts to a different recipe, this time for 'Chicken katsu with super slaw and sesame dressing'.
