An Australian school is under fire for removing toilets and cubicle doors in a drastic measure to combat student misbehaviour.
New Norfolk High School (NNH) in Tasmania made the decision over the summer holidays but students only found out about the changes when they returned to class on Wednesday.
Parents are fighting back against the move they describe as a "massive violation of human rights".
An online petition set up by parents has received over 450 signatures as of Sunday morning and it's claimed the "majority" of students' toilets have been removed and the ones that remain have had their cubicle doors removed.
Parents said students are being made to line up for 30 minutes to use a toilet.
"Students should most definitely have access to a toilet in a timely manner, due to general use, sickness, health conditions and should not be being penalised and made line up to 1 cubicle in an attempt to curb bad behaviour of a minority," parents wrote on the petition.
Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis - the state where the school is located - slammed the decision, saying it's an "unacceptable" move.
"Our kids have a human right to access bathroom facilities when they need them," she said on Facebook.
"I understand there will be reasons the school has taken this step, but there needs to be another way found to address those issues."
The Department of Education said on Friday access to toilets would be "increased" by Tuesday.
"The Department has closely monitored operations at the school today and will continue to do so until the situation is rectified," a spokesperson said.
"The Department apologises to the students and families of New Norfolk High School."
Daily Mail Australia reports workers were at the school on Friday morning to reinstall the toilets.
