Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has been photographed at her Auckland home doing paperwork, with no sign of the highly anticipated baby.

Three days after her baby was due, she is running the country as usual but is unable to travel to Parliament in Wellington.

Her partner Clarke Gayford posted a photo on Twitter of Ms Ardern reading paperwork on Wednesday, with the hashtag #stillwaiting.

"Anyone with aspirations of being PM, make sure you also have an appetite for reading and reading and reading and reading," he said.

Ms Ardern's baby was due on June 17. She will give birth at Auckland Hospital, and then the couple will announce the news on social media followed by a formal announcement.

When Ms Ardern and Mr Gayford leave the hospital with the baby, there will be a brief opportunity for photos and a few questions.

The Prime Minister will take six weeks of leave once the baby is born, with Winston Peters filling in as Acting Prime Minister during that time.
