Christchurch terror attack: Vigils happening around New Zealand

Vigils are taking place around the country today to pay respect to the victims of Christchurch's terror attack, a week after the horrific shooting.

The nation will also observe two minutes of silence at 1:40pm, the time the attack began.

AUCKLAND

1:30pm  University of Auckland Rec Centre, 17 Symonds St. Jummah service by UoA Muslim Students' Association.

1:30pm - Mount Roskill Mosque, 183 Stoddard Rd. A 'Cordon of Love' around the mosque.

6pm-8pm - Auckland Domain. Jummah Remembrance vigil organised by Migrants Against Racism and Xenophobia. Speakers will include representatives from the Muslim community, Ngāti Whatua, the Green Party, Shakti and Auckland high schools.

6pm - East Auckland Mosque, 27 Ben Lomond Cres in Pakuranga. Candlelit vigil and memorial.

6:30pm - Imam Reza Mosque, 7B Astley Ave, New Lynn.

HAMILTON

1:25pm - Civic Square, Worley Pl. Two minutes' silence.

1:25pm - Claudelands Park, cnr Brooklyn Rd and Heaphy Tce. Call to prayer followed by two minutes' silence.

PALMERSTON NORTH

1pm - Manawatu Muslims Association, 81 Cook St, West End. Event to support Muslims at Prayer.

KĀPITI

1:40pm - Kāpiti College, Margaret Rd. Giant haka organised by Kapiti and Porirua Mayors.

7pm - Zeal Youth Centre, 132 Rimu Rd.

7pm - Kāpiti Primary School field, Rimu Rd.

WELLINGTON

1:15pm - Kilbirnie Mosque, 9 Queens Dr. A human chain is to be formed around the mosque.

6pm - Kilbirnie Mosque, 9 Queens Dr. Vigil for Christchurch.

7:30pm - Cathedral of St Paul, 2 Hill St. Mass for peace.
