New Zealand is top of the list of Brits' favourite countries - ranking us ahead of themselves.

A survey by UK-based data company YouGov showed Brits ranked three countries ahead of their own - New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.

The survey, released on Tuesday, showed 80 percent of those in the UK had a positive opinion of both New Zealand and Canada, 79 percent had positive views of Australia, while 78 percent thought positively of their own country.

Brits believe people in New Zealand "are great" (70 percent), and "clean" (60 percent), while half of the survey respondents also thought NZ was environmentally friendly, the survey results show.

"One in eight Brits (13 percent) take a neutral view of their own country, with 8 percent actively disliking it," YouGov lead data journalist Matthew Smith wrote.

"Despite the 'special relationship', the USA ranks 34th, with only 44 percent of Brits having a positive view of the country, putting it behind countries like Brazil, Singapore, Fiji, and Croatia."

Kiwis have become used to being left off maps in recent years but the tide appears to be turning. In August, New Zealand was placed at the centre of a world map, what social media users said was "as it should be" due to the country's response to COVID-19.

The UK's top 10 favourite countries, as reported by YouGov:

New Zealand, Canada, Australia, UK, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Denmark.
