Six people have been arrested and 10 bikes seized after a mass motorbike ride event in Auckland caught the attention of police on Easter Saturday.
Police responded to a number of calls from concerned locals after a large group of people careened through south Auckland streets on dirt bikes, which aren't road legal.
Inspector Kay Lane, the Road Policing Manager in the Counties Manukau region, said further action is likely against those involved.
"We have a number of ongoing enquiries and CCTV footage to review in relation to today's event," she said in a statement.
"These riders showed a complete disregard for other motorists and placed themselves and others at risk."
Insp Lane has thanked the public for their cooperation and reassured them offending on the roads won't be tolerated.
"We will continue to monitor group bike rides and offending on the roads will be investigated and follow-up action taken."
The incident follows a previous mass ride event in Auckland on Waitangi Day, in which hundreds of illegal motorcyclists were filmed riding illegally on dirt bikes, which aren't allowed on the road.
The group engaged in a range of illegal behaviour - including riding without helmets, blocking motorways, intimidating drivers, doing wheelies and burnouts, riding unregistered dirt bikes and blocking traffic.
The illegal activity drew the ire of Auckland Mayor Phil Goff, who told Newshub the footage represented "mass lawlessness" and would not be tolerated in the Super City.
But it's happened again - and police are still in the process of investigating the first incident.
"Our enquiries remain ongoing in relation to the Waitangi Day bike ride in regards to identifying and taking follow-up action against those identified as being responsible for offending," Insp Lane said.
Police say members of the public can help by providing the names, addresses and bike descriptions of the offenders. Videos, CCTV footage and photos that may help police identify riders can be uploaded online at 105.police.govt.nz.
