Wellington commuters were lucky to escape uninjured after a bus veered off the road and crashed into a row of parked cars on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to Willis St in Wellington's CBD about 6:20pm after reports of a crash, police told Newshub.

No injuries were reported, but there were reports of damage to vehicles, a police spokesperson said.

Photos posted on social media show the windscreen of the bus shattered while the front left bumper was left hanging off.

A parked car was left completely damaged - windows shattered, and wheels completely knocked off.

The spokesperson said signs were erected to advise motorists of the debris on the road and the scene was cleared in a couple of hours.

"That was my car, now it's my pile of scrap," the owner posted on Reddit.

"I wasn't there so I'm fine, and it's fully insured. But it still sucks…"

"Be interesting to know what the driver was up to. Unlucky to be on the receiving end," another commented.

"Glad you were not in it at the time!"
