Five Head Hunters gang members have been arrested after a person was critically injured in a firearms incident in Auckland on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fight between a group of people at an address in Astley Ave, New Lynn about 3:20pm.

Later on Sunday, armed police surrounded the Head Hunters' gang headquarters in Henderson.

"Five men, who are members of the Head Hunters gang, were located at a Henderson address by police and taken into custody.

"All are due to appear in the Waitākere District Court today," police said in an update on Monday afternoon.

The arrested men were aged between 22 and 40 and all have been charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm, police said.

"A man remains in a serious condition in hospital following the incident," said a police statement.

"The police investigation remains ongoing into this matter and we cannot rule out further charges being laid at this stage."
