Ex-husband of murder victim Angela Blackmoore flies from Australia to take witness stand

The ex-husband of murder victim Angela Blackmoore has flown in from Australia to take the witness stand.

William Blackmoore was a friend of David Peter Hawken, who is co-accused of her 1995 killing.

He made the trip from Australia to give evidence in the trial of his ex-wife's murder.

"You have returned voluntarily to give evidence?" asked the lawyer in court.

"Yes," he replied.

William was seated in the witness box just one metre away from Rebecca Wright-Meldrum and David Peter Hawken, who are both accused of Angela's murder.

Hawken and William were friends.

"Once we knew that we had gone to the same school we sparked up a friendship," said William.

The friendship later soured when William tried to kick Hawken out of a property he owned - but he wouldn't leave and made a threat.

"That he was going to name me as the reason for him killing, getting Angela killed."

The Crown claims Hawken ordered the 1995 killing of Angela so he could take control of property she co-owned with William.

His co-accused Wright-Meldrum allegedly told William what she knew in the days after the murder.

"She tried to keep the conversation going by telling me that Angela was pinned to the floor by a big knife through her forehead," William told the court.

Under cross-examination, William revealed that he and Angela's relationship broke down and they argued over custody of their child.

"Sometimes you yourself would say I'd like to kill her," said the prosecutor.

"No, I'd say I'm better off without her. That's it," he responded.

The trial continues on Wednesday.
