4:00am

That's all from us here tonight/this morning - thanks for watching, and we'll see you in a week's time as the All Blacks face Ireland in Dublin!

3:47am

Hardly a classic. The scoreline doesn't reflect how poor the All Blacks played - especially in the first half.

Italy meanwhile can, and will, take a lot of pride from that.

Ian Foster and co. will have a lot more questions than answers this week, with Ireland waiting for the All Blacks in Dublin.

FULLTIME

Huge lineout throw over the top, and Cane turns it over. Mo'unga kicks over the top for McKenzie to chase, but Minozzi is there first and wins a penalty.

Italy go quickly, but the All Blacks win a penalty for not releasing. The All Blacks go quickly, but Jordie Barrett knocks on.

That's fulltime.

79 mins

Sam Cane wins a turnover right on halfway, and the All Blacks will have a lineout from just outside the 22.

Tuungafasi breaks from nowhere, and he offloads to Christie, who puts Reece away to score! Where did that come from? Reece looks hurt after that, not sure if it's cramp or an injury though.

Mo'unga converts.

(NZ 28 ITA 9)

62 mins

Sam Whitelock enters the fray. Short delay with Garbisi treated after a tackle, looks like a shoulder concern. He's off.

We're back, where Bigi throws for Italy's lineout. The ball goes backwards though, but Vaa'i gives away another penalty for not rolling away.

KICK OFF

We're away in Rome!

2:01am

Here we go then, kick off is moments away!

Richie Mo'unga will kick us off.

1:59am

Which haka will we see today? Ka Mate or Kapa o Pango?

It's Ka Mate. Dane Coles leads it, as Sam Cane stands at the front of the V.

Great to see.

1:58am

Every single Italian player sings along with the anthem. They never lack for passion.

That's the anthems done, time for the haka!

1:55am

Wow. The NZ anthem is being played with a full on rock band backing track, complete with piano and drums.

It sounds amazing.

1:53am

Italy emerge to a warm reception from their home fans, led by 23-year-old skipper Michele Lamaro.

We'll have the anthems, the haka, and then kick-off.

First though, the two sides will come together in a stand against racism.

1:51am

This could be a long day for Italy, who're without a win in their last 14 tests.

But coach Kieran Crowley knows a thing or two about how the All Blacks operate, so expect a tough contest for the men in black.

The All Blacks are the first side out of the tunnel and out onto Stadio Olimpico.

1:48am

The Stadio Olimpico's not a sell out, but there's still a decent turnout considering rugby comfortably takes a back seat to football in Rome.

1:44am

1:40am

These two sides haven't met since the end of 2018 - where the All Blacks thumped Italy 66-3.

They were scheduled to meet at the 2019 World Cup in Japan though, only for that clash to be abandoned due to Typhoon Hagibis.

1:30am

Good morning! And thank you for joining us so early!

We should be in for a treat this morning, with Ian Foster's shuffled side looking to each make individual statements in the hunt for a first XV spot.

*******

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the All Blacks' northern tour test match against Italy from Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

Fresh from last week's 40-17 victory over Wales, coach Ian Foster has shuffled the deck and named an entirely different starting XV to face the Azzurri.

Leading the charge is captain Sam Cane, named for his first start of the year, after an injury affected 12 months. Cane will hope to get some much-needed gametime under his belt tonight, as the All Blacks' supposed second-stringer bid for places in the year's final two games against Ireland and France.

On the other hand, Italy are under the tutelage of new coach and ex-All Black Kieran Crowley for the first time, and what a first match to have.

These two sides last met in 2018, coincidentally also in Rome, with the All Blacks winning 66-3. That test saw Jordie Barrett cross for four tries playing on the wing. Can his feat be matched here tonight?
