Golden Point

Fourth minute - TRY to Toala

Hurricanes string together 12 phases, but Moana turn the ball over and kick long - Toala wins the race to score the matchwinning try. Incredible!

Third minute - From the lineout, Hurricanes on attack just outside the 22. Moana defence holding strong.

Second minute - Hurricanes win a penalty at the breakdown through Kirifi and Morgan kicks deep into Moana half.

First minute - Hurricanes captain Prinsep wins the toss and they will receive the ball first.

Havili takes a kick inside his own half and charges over halfway.

Second half

40th minute - Time up on the clock, Paea to feed this scrum and Moana find touch to force extra time. Phew!

39th minute - Golden point looms, but Hurricanes win a lineout on the 22. Moana forwards hold them up and Hurricanes can't release - Moana scrum inside the last minute.

36th minute - TRY to Funaki

Taumateine is off, Paea is on for debut and will immediately feed this scrum. Time-Stowers charges off the back and when he's lowered, Funaki is on his shoulder to gather and score by the posts.

Lealiifano converts, 19-19

35th minute - MacRobbie wins the lineout for Moana, but the maul collapses. The forwards surge towards the tryline and win another penalty, so they'll scrum in front of the posts.

34th minute - Moana on attack and building phases. Stowers charges towards the 22 and Pickerill awards a penalty against the Hurricanes for not rolling away in the tackle, so Havili kicks to the corner.

32nd minute - A collapsed scrum will almost give Rayasi time to get back onfield. When it resets, Hurricanes go on attack, but Moana are over the top at the breakdown and win another penalty.

30th minute - Moana surge back onto attack from the kickoff, but they're penalised for running interference and Morgan clears inside their half.

27th minute - TRY to Fidow

Love takes a high kick and launches an attack over halfway. Morgan puts Delany through a gap in the defence and he finds Fidow, who powers over the line to score.

Love converts, HUR 19-12

25th minute - TRY to Aumua

Moana attacking down the right, Funaki offloads and Aumua finds himself in the clear, with an open 30m run to the corner, taking full advantage of Rayasi's absence. Lealiifano swings his sideline conversion across the face of goal, 12-12

23rd minute - Moana win another attacking lineout, but Hurricanes defence hold them out again and jump on a loose ball, with Morgan clearing to halfway.

22nd minute - Moana release the ball to the backs, but Toala's kick is easily defused by Love. Pickerill brings them back for the penalty and yellow-cards Rayasi.

21st minute - Moana win the lineout and surge towards the line, winning a penalty advantage. The forwards go close, but Hurricanes hold them back.

20th minute - Moana win a scrum penalty, as Numia collapses the scrum. Havili kicks to the corner...

19th minute - Barrett kicks long and Moana build an attack, with Time-Stowers reaching halfway. Hurricanes knock on and Moana have a scrum inside the Hurricanes half.

18th minute - From the kickoff, Hurricanes win yet another penalty - now 16-6 - and Barrett clears.

16th minute - TRY to Moorby

Moments after he missed a try on the right wing, Moorby looms inside Umaga-Jensen out left and cuts back infield, past two defenders, to score on debut. Barrett slices his conversion, HUR 12-7

15th minute - Perenara finally feeds a midfield scrum and Iose runs off the back.

13th minute - Umaga-Jensen chips ahead down the left and Moorby has the pace, but the ball beats him into touch-in-goal.

12th minute - Moana win the lineout outside their 22 and surge towards halfway. Taumateine kicks high to halfway and Hurricanes launch a counterattack.

11th minute - Hurricanes win the lineout and maul towards the line. Moana hold them out, so they shift acrossfield, but the defence holds and Pickerill awards Moana a clearing penalty.

Ninth minute - From the scrum, Moana shift left and Havili kicks ahead, behind the Hurricanes defence.

Seventh minute - Moana win the lineout and maul inside the 22. When they release, they're penalised for not releasing in the tackle and Perenara clears.

Aumua returns to the game.

Sixth minute - Pickerill brings them back for the Moana penalty in midfield. Havili kicks to the corner for an attacking lineout.

Fifth minute - From the scrum, Hurricanes clear and Havili surges back on attack. Moana have a penalty advantage and look dangerous.

Third minute - Pickerill brings them back for a Hurricanes scrum from the knock-on, deeming the clearance was not advantage enough.

Second minute - Moana win a lineout, but their maul is held up. When the ball comes free, Funaki surges towards the posts, but the ball goes loose and Hurricanes clear their 22.

First minute - Moana Pasifika kick off, still a man down, with Aumua in the sin bin. As they move the ball left, Morgan goes low in a tackle on Havili and lifts him past the horizontal.

Incredibly, given the two yellow cards handed out previous, Pickerill just penalises Morgan.

Halftime

40th minute - Barrett fails to find touch again and when Hurricanes get the ball back, Moana win another turnover at the breakdown. That's a familiar pattern this half - penalty, attack, turnover, clear.

Taumateine kicks for touch and is happy to arrive at halftime on level terms.

39th minute - Pickerill has his arm out for another penalty against Moana and the Hurricanes are backpedalling into their own half. They come back for the penalty, that's 13-1!

Pickerill and Kepu are having a stern conversation about discipline.

38th minute - Goosen has a cut above his eye from a big tackle by Levi Aumua. Pickerill is taking another look at the hit - it's head on head and Pickerill will show Aumua a yellow card for that.

Tough call! Barrett finds touch from the penalty.

37th minute - Pickerill has handed out 11 penalties against Moana, one against Hurricanes, but Barrett's touchfinder doesn't find the line.

36th minute - Hurricanes have another penalty at a midfield scrum on halfway.

34th minute - Barrett is flattened in a late-looking tackle and is in pain. The tackle is low and late, and he'll be hobbling on that thigh tomorrow.

33rd minute - Moana are back to full strength, with Kepu returning to the game. Hurricanes win a scrum and enter the Moana half, but Time-Stowers drives Umaga-Jensen back in a huge tackle.

32nd minute - Perenara fails to find touch and Havili tries to launch a counterattack from halfway, but loses the ball forward.

31st minute - Attacking lineout for Moana, but they overthrow and Hurricanes have a chance to clear their line.

30th minute - Taumateine feeds a midfield scrum, but the Hurricanes forwards shunt them off the ball and win a penalty. Perenara taps and they move the ball left - but Moana win another turnover at the breakdown.

28th minute - Pickerill warns Lealiifano about the penalties, but Moana respond by winning a scrum penalty and clear their line. Hurricanes have not capitalised on their massive advantage during this first half.

27th minute - Delany wins the lineout and Hurricanes surge towards the line, winning yet another penalty - that's nine against Moana Pasifika.

26th minute - Moana are penalised at the scrum and Barrett looks to the corner for another attacking lineout.

25th minute - From the kickoff, Moana knock on into touch and Hurricanes opt for a midfield scrum, as Time-Stowers gets attention for a dislocated finger. Youch!

23rd minute - Moana win the lineout and lay seige to the tryline. They have a penalty advantage, but don't need it, as Time-Stowers plunges over by the posts.

Lealiifano converts, 7-7

22nd minute - Hurricanes win a lineout in their own territory and move left, where Barrett gives Goosen some room to move... but Moana steal the ball again. Havili kicks a 50-22, finding touch five mentres out for an attacking lineout.

20th minute - Taumateine steals the ball from under Peranara's nose and Moana scramble clear again.

19th minute - Lomax plunges towards the tryline, but is held up by three tacklers. Pickerill comes back to the tap and shows Kepu a yellow card for hindering Perenara from an offside position - that was a while coming and now Moana are a man down to defend this attacking scrum.

18th minute - Hurricanes win the lineout and move the ball left, building pressure. They win another penalty and Perenara taps quickly...

17th minute - Gibson runs a hard line off the lineout, but Hurricanes break down and have to go back for another penalty. Barrett kicks to the corner for an attacking lineout.

16th minute - Moana feed to a defensive scrum and win a free-kick, which Lealiifano clears outside the 22.

15th minute - Nice touch pass from Morgan in centrefielder sets his backline charging down the right, where Umaga-Jensen and Waldon go close, but the last pass to Morgan is ruled forward and his try is disallowed,

14th minute - Nice interplay down the left by Barrett and Goosen puts Hurricanes hot on attack, but Moana manage to scramble the ball clear again.

12th minute - A kicking duel ends with Morgan finding touch for a 50-20 and an attacking lineout for the Hurricanes, who managed to turn the ball over again.

11th minute - From the lineout win, Hurricanes surge into the 22, but Moana steal the ball again and Lealiifano clears beyond halfway.

10th minute - Hurricanes have another penalty - their fourth - for a late tackle. That toll is mounting already, as Barrett kicks to the corner.

Ninth minute - Barrett clears to halfway and Goosen cuts through centrefield off the lineout.

Eighth minute - From the kickoff, Hurricanes are driven back into their 22, but Barrett clears. Moana's throw to the lineout is long and inaccurate, so Hurricanes have another chance to clear their 22.

They win a penalty, so that should help...

Sixth minute - TRY to Barrett

Hurricanes win a lineout on the 22 and Umaga-Jensen finds Barrett surging up centrefield. He dodges a coupel of would-be tacklers to score by the posts, then converts, HUR 7-0

Fifth minute - First scrum of the night and Hurricanes get a free kick. From the quick tap, Iose charges towards the line, but Moana steal the ball and clear their line.

Third minute - Morgan beats the first tackler going left and Moana are offside again. Hurricanes call for the scrum in midfield inside the 22.

Second minute - Barrett kicks for touch and finds it near the Moana 22. Hurricanes move the ball acrossfield.

First minute - Brendon Pickerill will be the ref tonight, as Morgan kicks off for the Hurricanes. Moana take the ball outside their 22 and Lealiifano clears upfield.

Jordie Barrett is met with a big tackle on halfway, but Hurricanes have a penalty.

*****

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the Super Rugby Pacific encounter between Moana Pasifika and the Hurricanes at Mt Smart Stadium.

Six weeks into the competition and the newcomers have only played twice, due to COVID-19 outbreaks among their camp and their opponents. They're still searching for their maiden victory and haven't really challenged their opposition yet.

These are the teething problems of any expansion franchise in any sport and hopefully SANZAAR will allow them more latitude than it did with the Japanese Sunwolves.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have two wins from their three outings, bearing in mind no other NZ team has gone unbeaten so far this season either. Beaten in their opening game, they won their next two - including that last-minute Ardie Savea try against the Blues - but haven't played in almost three weeks, so don't really carry any recent form.

Welcome to the on-gain, off-again 2022 Super Rugby Pacific.

All Blacks halfback TJ Perenara will make his first appearance of the season, as the Hurricanes roll out their fourth inside-back combination in as many games, naming Aidan Morgan for his debut at first-five.

Join us for kickoff at 7pm.

Blues star Barrett still battling with lingering effects of COVID-19 outbreak

Ollie Ritchie

Star first-five Beauden Barrett admits he's still struggling with the effects of COVID-19, as he prepares to return to the Blues side for this weekend's clash with the Highlanders.

The All Blacks pivot was one of several Blues members struck down last week, and while he's expected to start against the southerners at Dunedin, he's still not quite himself.

"It's lingering a little bit, it's just my own personal case," Barrett tells Newshub.

"It's just taking quite a long time to get back to 100 percent."

Contracting the virus was just another speed bump for the two-time World Rugby player of the year.

Sidelined for the opening round of Super Rugby Pacific as he recovered from the concussion he suffered against Ireland last year, Barrett saw less than a half of rugby, before his season was derailed.

"It's been disruptive already this season, but we kind of expected it," Barrett says.

"Hopefully it's all behind us because we've got a big three games in 10 days coming up."

The Blues' second postponement of the Super Rugby season last weekend is one of several matches needing to be rescheduled, as NZ Rugby grapples with outbreaks among all of the Kiwi franchises.

But despite the competition's recent struggles, Barrett doesn't feel it prematurely pulled the pin on the Queenstown bubble.

"It was there to get the competition up and running and minimise the risk," Barrett says.

The extended time on the sideline is only fueling Barrett's hunger to return to the field.

"I just want to get out there and enjoy playing footy again."

After a difficult start to the season off the field, Barrett is ready to deliver on it.
