Former All Black Dan Carter converts 1598 kicks in a kickathon to fundraise for UNICEF

Legendary All Black number 10 Dan Carter has completed a 24-hour Kickathon to raise money for UNICEF.

Carter started kicking at 7pm on Thursday with the aim of converting 1598 kicks, one for each point he scored during his international test career.

It's almost like he's done this before, but the All Black legend says the past 24 hours have had their own challenges.

"Mentally I'm okay, physically getting a little bit tired, probably getting red eyes, muscles starting to get a bit sore, but I'm on the final stretch," Carter told Newshub.

The sporting great has been kicking at Eden Park using both his left and right feet and working in 40-minute shifts.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible for UNICEF and get 1598 kicks through the posts.

"I was kicking one kick at a time, and then I was like, 'look just line them all up, like we have, and I'll just bang them, I'll have a wee rest'... I'm just on autopilot at the moment," Carter says.

It's no surprise the world's most decorated number 10 has kicked his fair share of absolute pearlers.

The money raised will help provide clean water for kids in the Pacific.

"He's shining a light on the issues, and that in some ways is as important as the money which is going to go a massive way to making a difference in children's lives," UNICEF New Zealand CEO Michelle Sharp says.

"Supplying something as simple as clean water to these kids in the Pacific is going to make a huge difference," Carter says.
