The defending champions are still struggling to get their season rolling, despite notching up their first win against the Chiefs last month.
At times, they looked something like their old selves against NSW Waratahs last week and seemed to have victory assured, but could not close down the final kickoff and allowed their rivals to snatch the win in overtime.
Missing much of the leadership core that guided them to success over the past seven years under former coach Scott Robertson, the Crusaders are having to develop their younger talent in the heat of battle, which may take time.
Incredibly, this is a bottom-of-the-table clash, but victory can catapult the Crusaders above the Highlanders as Kiwi woodenspooners. Defeat would see them at the wrong end of the ladder.
