Shocking footage uploaded to Reddit shows the spine-chilling moment an Australian motorcyclist came close to a horrific collision in Victoria over the weekend.

Reddit user beanie-io uploaded the video, which captures the driver narrowly missing a vehicle which appears to do a U-turn right into his path.

As the motorcycle slips past, he can be heard letting out a brief scream.

According to 7 News, the close call occurred on Healesville-Kinglake Rd in Kinglake, north-east of Melbourne, with the driver travelling along at the speed limit of 100km/h.

He said he noticed a row of parked cars and began to move into the right lane to avoid any potential hazards.

Mick Humphries, the general manager of the Australian Driver Trainers Association, told 7 News that it was the car driver's responsibility to make sure nothing was approaching,

Reddit users were shocked, with one believing the motorcyclist escaped death by about 25cm.

Others shared their stories of similar near-misses on motorcycles, including one user who said their uncle smashed into a car which had run a red light, throwing him across the intersection. Luckily, he had been wearing safety gear and survived, but both the car and the bike were destroyed.

Another said their friend's father had been decapitated when he hit the side of a vehicle making an illegal U-turn.
