An Indian man has painted his dog as a tiger to scare the monkeys destroying crops on his farm.

Srikant Gowda in Karnataka, southwest India decided to paint his dog after visiting another farmer, who used a fake tiger doll to fight a monkey infestation reported the Indian Times.

"Monkeys used to destroy crops on my farm. That is why I have painted stripes on my pet dog.

Monkeys run away thinking that the dog is a tiger," Gowda told NEWS9.

According to the Indian Times, the paint is of hair dye and lasts up to a month before fading.

This is not the first time this year that someone has painted their dog.

Earlier this year, rapper Valee dyed his dog-red, while in July animal rights groups were outraged after a herd of sheep were coloured bright pink for the UK Latitude Festival.
