A group of furries attending a Californian convention have saved a woman from a domestic assault attack.

Furries are individuals who dress up as animals with human personalities and characters.

Kin Z. Shiratsuki and a group of friends were attending a FurCon Convention in San Jose on Friday.

While standing outside the building they noticed a man hitting a lady inside a car, according to NBC BayArea.

"This guy was just walloping a lady," Shiratsuki told the publication. "He had to have hit her 10 times."

Another FurCon convention attendee, Robbie Ryans, was DJing at the event when the incident occurred.

He told CNN, he and his friend were having a cigarette when a blue car stopped in front of them.

Then they heard the screams of a woman.

"We got up and ran towards the car, my friend pulled open the door and we both held onto the attacker.

"The girl driver was yelling for him to get out, as he started trying to fight us off," Ryans told CNN.

Upon noticing the pair fighting, Shiratsuki and her friends joined the fray.

Together in a banded effort, the group managed to wrestle the man out if the car.

"I’ve had my whole life, a bunch of taekwondo and karate.

"I was able to grab him by the back, pull him out of the vehicle and put him on the ground with as little violence as I could," Shiratsuki told Bay Area.

Once the group felt the situation was under control, they called police.

Police claim the man assaulted his girlfriend in the car and have arrested 22-year-old Demetri Hardnett on the charges of domestic violence.
