US President Donald Trump's celebratory Super Bowl LIV tweet has gone viral after he congratulated the wrong state for the Kansas City Chiefs' win

In his tweet praising the team for their victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Trump commended the 'Great State of Kansas' instead of Missouri, where the Kansas City Chiefs are based.

Trump wrote: "Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on a great game, and a fantastic comeback, under immense pressure. You represented the Great State of Kansas and, in fact, the entire USA, so very well. Our Country is PROUD OF YOU!"

The president was quick to delete the tweet and repost congratulating Missouri but not before his mistake had been screenshotted and shared globally.

Former Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill was one of the first to call Trump out on his blunder.

"It's Missouri you stone cold idiot", she tweeted.

It's not the first time Trump has made a geographical gaffe.

In 2016, the president called Germany "a total mess" after a man was shot in Paris, France.
