American actor and comedian Griffin Newman has announced he “deeply regrets” working on Woody Allen’s latest film.

Allen has been accused of molesting his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow when she was seven. He was never charged and has continued to deny the allegation.

Newman took to Twitter on Sunday to talk through his complicated feelings about working for Allen.

"I need to get this off my chest: I worked on Woody Allen's next movie. I believe he is guilty. I donated my entire salary to RAINN [the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network]," he said.

"It's a one-scene role. I spent a month debating whether or not to quit. I deeply regret my final decision."

RAINN is the largest anti-sexual assault organisation in the United States.

Newman said his parent's pride, his learning opportunities and his "cowardice" are what held him back from quitting the film, which has yet to be named.

"It was an educational experience for all the wrong reasons. I learned conclusively that I cannot put my career over my morals again," he said.

"I've been steadfast in what I stand for in my personal life and on Twitter, but would largely take the check and bite my tongue on set."

Newman said he had been feeling this way for the last month, but the "awful revelations" of the last week "compounded [his] guilt tenfold".

Numerous reports by a number of women in Hollywood have emerged in the past week accusing media mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault and harassment, leading to his dismissal from his own company and separation from his wife.

Newman said he has "unequivocally" believed Allen is guilty since reading Farrow's open letter published in The New York Times in February 2014.

"I can't keep professionally operating from a place of fear. It's time to show courage in my actions mirroring my words without concession."
