Pre-match
The Chiefs have been rocked by a couple of key injuries in the loose forwards, with captain Sam Cane (abdominal strain) and Lachlan Boshier (appendix) both ruled out with injuries.

Veteran Liam Messam moves from the back of the scrum to the openside, with Luke Jacobson and Pita Gus Sowakula moving off the bench into the starting line-up.

Notably, this also means All Blacks lock Brodie Retallick, who was due to take a week off, has returned to the reserves for this game.

Conditions are pretty amazing, considering the flooding that has struck Rotorua in recent weeks. Ground conditions are perfect.

Kia ora, good evening...

Welcome to Rotorua for tonight's Super Rugby clash between the Chiefs and Jaguares.

This match is the second time the two teams have faced off - the Chiefs won that previous encounter 30-26 two years ago.

Chiefs rest Brodie Retallick for Jaguares clash in Rotorua

The Chiefs, currently ranked fourth in the NZ conference and sixth overall, are coming off a bye week, having previously dispatched the Reds 36-12 in Brisbane.

The Jaguares created history last week, when they defeated the Blues 20-13 at Eden Park - their first ever victory over an NZ franchise and (obviously) their first in New Zealand.

After wins over the Rebels and Brumbies in Australia, they are now on a nice winning run that has carried them to third in the South African conference and ninth overall, challenging for their first ever playoff berth.
