New Zealander Paul Lasike has been released by the Chicago Bears.

Lasike, who played Tuesday (NZT) in the Bears 29-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, was waived by the team this morning.

The fullback was primarily used as an extra blocker on offence by the Bears, and even helped running back Jeremy Langford score a touchdown when he picked up a block on the goal line.

Lasike had one rushing attempt for the Bears. Needing just one yard for a first down, Lasike managed to run up the middle for two and keep the offence ticking over.

The Kiwi was likely released from the 53-man squad to free up room for the team to bring in a new quarterback after starter Jay Cutler went down with a hand injury.
