Defending champion Patrick Bevin has set a course record in winning the REV Cycle Race one-day event in the Waikato region.
Bevin completed the challenging 137km course in 3hr 22min 35sec to win for his Team Avanti Racing outfit, heading off second-placed NZ National Team rider James Oram and a third leading Kiwi, Budget Forklifts rider Michael Torckler.
The trio broke clear and fought out an exciting finish, more than a minute clear of the rest of the field.
The race carries UCI status, luring a number of top New Zealand riders, including women's winner Joanne Kiesanowski.
She won comfortably from Aucklander Hannah Gumbley and Hannah van Kampen of Hastings.
