Lawyers to consider SBW's Twitter outburst, Geale V Mundine

Former All Black Sonny Bill Williams could face legal action over a tweet he sent after his friend Anthony Mundine lost to Daniel Geale in an IBF middleweight title fight in Sydney.

News Limited has reported that New South Wales Combat Sports Authority chairman Denis Fitzgerald has called in lawyers to determine whether it has grounds to sue Mundine or Williams about the fight's judges who unanimously scored Geale the winner on points.

Mundine claimed he had "walked into an ambush" and had been robbed.

Williams tweeted a photo of himself, Wallabies five-eighth Quade Cooper and Mundine after the fight, with the caption: "Hanging out with @Anthony-Mundine celebrating a victory. We don't pay attention to corrupt judges!"

But on Thursday he tweeted an apology, saying "emotions were running high just very disappointed for my brother and that's how I saw the fight".

Fitzgerald told News Limited he was seeking advice as to what legal action, if any, could be taken against Mundine, a registered fighter in NSW.

"I don't know yet where we stand legally with Williams as he is currently not registered or licensed to fight in NSW," Fitzgerald said.

"I have called in litigation lawyers to table a report to a full board meeting.

"Mundine's, Williams's and other outbursts on social media were disrespectful to properly accredited and experienced panel of judges."

Williams is preparing for a fight against South African Francois Botha in Brisbane next Friday and is due to return to the NRL competition, joining Sydney Roosters on February 18.
