'We were nice all the way through' - The Block NZ's Amy and Stu

The Block NZ 2018 winners Amy Moore and Stu Watts have rejected a suggestion they were the show's villains.

The Gisborne couple appeared on The Project the day after selling their house for over $1 million and being crowned the winners of the reality renovation show.

The team was a controversial presence on the show, notably during the infamous cheating incident in which they kept a tradie working at their house after curfew.

Amy and Stu were also frequently involved in arguments or conflicts with the other contestants, most often Clare and Agne, another couple on the show.

But when asked by host Jesse Mulligan if they changed their behaviour or "got nicer" as filming progressed, the couple was adamant they'd done nothing wrong.

"We were nice the whole way through," Stu said.

"I think maybe you just saw nicer bits," Amy added to explain why their behaviour may have seemed to change over the course of the show.

After a finale described as "flat", The Project gave Amy and Stu a second chance to experience their win, with host Jeremy Corbett announcing they'd won and confetti falling from the ceiling.

They say they'll use their nearly $170,000 in prize money to take their kids on a much-needed holiday after being away from home for three months.
