Another five "legal high" products have been banned and there are now only 41 on sale, the Government says.
Associate Health Minister Todd McClay says about 300 were being sold from an estimated 4000 outlets before the Psychoactive Substances Bill was passed in July last year, which strictly regulated party pills and synthetic cannabis.
The latest five to be considered harmful by the authorities and ordered off the shelves are AK47, Anarchy, Karma, Northern Lights Primo and Voodoo. The ban is effective immediately.
Mr McClay says there are now fewer than 170 outlets selling the products.
Twenty-three enforcement officers have also been hired and will specialise in monitoring and enforcing the Act.
